Kinshasa mourns gospel diva Marie Misamu Ngolo

The Democratic Republic of Congo is mourning the death of gospel diva Marie Misamu Ngolo who died on the January 16 after a heart attack. She was 41 years old.

Thousands of fans came out in their numbers to pay their last respect to a woman who is believed to have changed the lives of many.

Michael who is a painter says painting a portrait of the singer is the only thing he can offer to the artiste and also her fans.

“Like everyone, I was very shocked with the passing of sister Marie Misamu. An idea suddenly struck me that we should give what we have. So I told myself the day the body will arrive, I will make an effort to present her portrait to the public,” he said.

The heightened security does not prevent the fans from expressing their loss, even as a stampede broke out.

To many, she was a true African woman with her signature thick black wigs and long wide pleated skirts.

Hundreds of women in the country have imitated her style describing her as a respectful woman who did not expose her body.

Sister Marie Misamu also worked alongside great artistes like Debaba and Papa Wemba.

Her songs also revolved around social problems like poverty and even war that continues to affect the
country.

She is expected to be laid to rest on Friday.
